This #FridayFacts - Why are cemeteries so haunted? Cemeteries and the repository of memories, a place where bodies are interred, but history continues, out of time and space, allowing a glimpse into the past. From a ghostly perspective, most cemeteries are not actually haunted. This is a hallowed place of eternal repose, and the spirits of those buried have usually crossed over and no longer linger in this earthly realm. Read more: https://lnkd.in/ghXNx_z2

This #FridayFacts - Just why are old asylum's so notoriously haunted? Here are just a few reasons: Most places had 1 nurse for every 30 to 40 patients. They were only a minority of mental hospitals that actually had any sort of decent founding – money flow. In most cases patient care was partly taken care for by donations — and those weren’t consistent. So, as a result, most hospitals were understaffed, overcrowded, and dilapidated. Patients in rags, sleeping on the floor, sitting on plastic chairs, using what they could to wipe their rears. The general consensus, when it came to patient care, was, drug them up, sedate them and hope they don’t cause a fuzz. To what point? Most mental hospitals tended to turn a blind-eye to the use of illicit drugs by their patients. The treatments — Today, most mental institutions have Federal mandated policies and are supervised by the State. No quack doctor experimenting with people’s heads. A couple of years back, before mental health reformation statues – and the reason why there are so many closed down institutions of this kind, the ‘Deinstitutionalisation” movement – those assurances were a bit flexible. That’s code for doctors who could do just about anything as long as they thought it would help the patient. Most just got their jollies from being grade A monsters and being paid for it. Folks, when they think about mental hospital practices, they instantly flash to lobotomies – and sure docs’ were performing so many of those that they might as well have come to work wearing an ice-cream frock and twiddling a gelato scoop around. Nonetheless, lobotomies, compared to some of the practices these “innovators’ ‘ got up to were tame. As far as psychosurgeries and other experimental treatments they were humane by comparison. July is a month we celebrate our nation's past, and look back on the events that have brought us to today. Much of that past includes haunted history and there are plenty of ghosts said to haunt our nation's capitol, Washington D.C., including the ghosts of the White House. Ghosts that are said to walk the halls of the White House include Abigail Adams, Abraham Lincoln, his son Willie Lincoln, and Andrew Jackson. The ghost of Abigail Adams is said to both act as a guardian to the White House, appearing in moments of crisis, and a helper with domestic duties. Her ghost has been seen by staff doing laundry, which Abigail herself took care of when she lived in the White House. Abraham Lincoln is a frequent presence in the White House with Presidents, First Ladies and even foreign visitors claim to have come across his specter in the White House. He is known to haunt the Lincoln bedroom even though he never slept there during his time in the White House. One famous encounter occurred when Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands was staying at the White House, she reportedly heard a knock on her door and upon opening saw the ghost of Abraham Lincoln wearing his top hat. The sight of him caused the Queen to faint out of shock. During President Lincoln’s first term in office, two of his sons: Willie and Tad both fell ill from typhoid fever. While Tad recovered from the illness, Willie passed away at the tender age of 11. President Lincoln and his wife Mary were grief-stricken at his death, and it is reported that President Lincoln cried copiously for his young son. He was temporarily buried on the White House grounds as his body was later exhumed to join his father’s in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, IL. Of the numerous Presidents whose specters haunt the White House, none is more boisterous than that of Andrew Jackson. His ghost is often heard swearing and stomping around. His loud laughter can still be heard coming from the Rose Room or the Queens Bedroom where Andrew Jackson used to sleep. Looking for some #FridayFrights? There are countless serial killers who were never caught, and whose identities will forever be a mystery to time. One such killer is known as "The Axeman of New Orleans." From 1918 - 1919 he reigned terror on the city, killing 6 and injuring 6 others. However, this killer had a special quirk. He was not only fond of axe murder, he was also, as any true New Orleans' man should be, a fan of jazz. In May of 1919 he wrote an open letter, published in papers at the time, telling citizens they would be spared if they played Jazz music. "Now, to be exact, at 12:15 (earthly time) on next Tuesday night, I am going to pass over New Orleans. In my infinite mercy, I am going to make a little proposition to you people. Here it is: I am very fond of jazz music, and I swear by all the devils in the nether regions that every person shall be spared in whose home a jazz band is in full swing at the time I have just mentioned. If everyone has a jazz band going, well, then, so much the better for you people. One thing is certain and that is that some of your people who do not jazz it out on that specific Tuesday night (if there be any) will get the axe." There were no murders that night, as Jazz was played across the city. However, after this the killer resumed his crime spree, with his last murder taking place in October of 1919. He then disappeared into the mystery of time, never to be caught or heard from again. Read more about the axeman here: https://lnkd.in/g8xPNJP2
