West Virginia, nicknamed the "Mountain State" because of the Appalachian Mountains extend through the eastern portion of the state. It is the only state to become a state by presidential proclamation. West Virginia is also the only state formed during the civil war.
Ghosts of the civil war can often be found in a haunted house in this state.
