Texas Haunted Houses
  Texas Haunted Houses

Texas, known as the "Lone Star State." A single star was part of the Long Expedition, Austin Colony and several flags of the early Republic of Texas. Some say that the star represented the wish of many Texans to achieve statehood in the United States. Others say it originally represented Texas as the lone state of Mexico which was attempting to uphold its rights under the Mexican Constitution of 1824. At least one "lone star" flag was flown during the Battle of Concepcion and the Siege of Bexar. Joanna Troutman's flag with a single blue star was raised over Velasco on January 8, 1836. Another flag with a single star was raised at the Alamo (1836) according to a journal entry by David Crockett. One carried by General Sam Houston's Texian army may have been captured and taken to Mexico. Another "lone star" flag, similar to the current one but with the red stripe above the white, was also captured the following year and returned to Mexico. The "David G. Burnet" flag, of "an azure ground" (blue background) "with a large golden star central" was adopted by the Congress of the Republic of Texas in December of 1836. It continued in use as a battle flag after being superseded in January of 1839. The 1839 design has been used to symbolize the Republic and the "Lone Star State" ever since.
The slogan "Everything is bigger in Texas" also applies to their haunted houses.

Oct 17,18-24,25,26-Nightly Oct 29-Nov 1, 7:00pm-Midnight $10 per person, I-35, Exit 345 (north of Waco) Ross Tx On the afternoon of August 18, 1973 five young people in a van ran out of gas on a farm road in Central Texas. Four of them were never seen again. The next morning the one survivor, Salley Hardesty Enright, was picked up wandering in a roadside rest area on I-35. Blood caked and screaming murder, she said she had broken out of a window in Hell. The girl babbled a mad tale. A cannibal family in a isolated farmhouse. Chain sawed fingers and bones, her brother and her friends hacked up for barbeque, chairs made of human skeletons. Then she sank into catatonia. Today the Nightmare will not die as countless episodes still happen in the area of the I-35 rest stop.

Dr. Haunt's Terror on 10th
Over 50 years ago the """"10th Street Motel"""" was the site of the most horrific crime that Amarillo authorities had ever seen, which is why it is known as the """"Terror on Tenth"""". In 2003 local authorities agreed to open the motel to the public once a year. Thanks to this new interest in the old crime continuous discoveries have solved many """"missing persons"""" cases, but who knows what else lurks in this grisly """"Ghost Hunters"""" delight. Tours are being given every weekend in October. Beware what you'll see and experience will be very disturbing.
