Michigan, nicknamed "The Wolverine State" by Ohioans, around 1835 during a dispute over the Toledo strip, a piece of land along the border between Ohio and Michigan. Rumors in Ohio at the time described Michiganians as being as vicious and bloodthirsty as wolverines. This dispute became known as the Toledo War.
Another nickname for Michigan is the "Great Lake State." Michigan's shores touch four of the five Great Lakes, and Michigan has more than 11,000 inland lakes. In Michigan, you are never more than 6 miles from an inland lake or more than 85 miles from a Great Lake. From 1969 to 1975 and from 1977 to 1983 Michigan's automobile license plates featured the legend,

Haunted Temple-Bay City, Michigan
October 17-18, 24-25, 30-31 from 7pm to 11pm at Bay City's Historic Masonic Temple. $10.00 Adults, $6.00 Students (with id) and seniors over 65. Experience a guided tour of the Masonic Temple by members of a scientific team investigating reports of paranormal activity in the Historic District. Witnesses claim the building is being """"haunted"""" by turn of the century apparitions and other unexplainable entities. The opportunity has arrived for you to be a part of the investigation and possibly discover something """"otherworldly"""" that our team may be overlooking. The Haunted Temple event is a fundraiser for the restoration and operation of Bay City's Historic Masonic Temple. Presented by Bay Arts Council.

Hegewisch Haunted School
Pass through a magical portal and visit the Hegewisch School for Magical Beings (A Fully Accredited Institution). Watch out for the ghoulish teachers, haunted hallways, and creepy janitors as you visit a the school from where the non-magical rarely return. A scarey non-gore family haunt.

Phobia House
Phobia House is a Haunted House with a Twist - Or is that a twisted side? Located in Kalamazoo, MI. with over 16,660 sq ft of terror! Phobia House is an indoors haunted house with indoors waiting lines and free parking. Phobia House is a live actor traditional haunt, a 3-D haunt, and a phobia infested nightmare. Cost is $13.00 which includes a free pair of 3-D glasses. We always have phobias present, however, every year we change the main theme for Phobia House. Two years ago the theme was Jack The Ripper, last year the theme was a Dark CarnEVIL, and the theme for Phobia House 2007 is """"Inside The Mind Of A Serial Killer"""".
